ELTE Science Plane at ESOF 2016 : promo video

What is Science Plane all about? Who we are? What do we think of ESOF and what are we looking forward to do at ESOF? Check out the intro of the very first official Hungarian student delegation heading to ESOF2016!     (only in Hungarian for now, subtitles are coming soon!)

Science Plane: on our way to the ESOF!  (HUN!)

This wonderrrful video diary has been made by FábiánTóth, a member of our team. How did he find our trip, Manchaster and our first day at ESOF2016, aka : "early like craaazy" departure – hot chocolate – speedwalk-scoring – Manchester : the city that steals your heart – "sexy" accommodation – double deckers, coaches and even more double deckers – bartending in Erope's smallest bar – "presidential welcome" at the conference of Science journalists – green wristband = festival ! - "scientific drinking" – Jean Michel Jarre concert – Doctor Who Tribute at the Lowell telescope – acting geek and Bluedot by all means !:)

Les p'tits Illuminés: a playful way of teaching science

What is electricity and how can we teach about it to children in a playful way?  How does such an idea come to the mind of a PhD student in biophysics and a young illustrator ? How did their idea shape up and turn into an educative box ?

Camille Paoletti and Barbara Govin, two university students and friends, show the greatest example of how young science enthousiasts can find a way to turn their fascinating ideas into reality ! Check out their motivations, the contents of their box, hear about everything they have built up and listen how ESOF can contribute to their success !

Science Plane at ESOF2016:

Presenting Jodrell Bank and the Bluedot Festival (HUN!)

What are radio telescopes good for and why is Jodrell Bank a good place for them? How to study the center of black holes ? How is it more different to study our galaxy with radio waves compared to any other approaches ? How does Blue Dot 2016 looked like ? We put together all that can be easily explained in 3 minutes about these questions by the ESOF2016 Science Plane team.

Science Plane report:

Fábián and the muscle tone testing at the ESOF EXPO (HUN!)

Following the ESOF2016 Opening Ceremony we explored the ESOF Expo, where Fábián ran into the Estonian "free muscle tone testing" research stand, where muscle tone has been tested in a non-invasive, painless way. So we took up the challenge to explain what is the muscle tone good for and what does such a test actually tell us about our muscles.

Science Plane interview at ESOF2016:

Sir Venkatraman Ramakrishnan

We had the honor to have a conversation with Sir Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Nobel lauriate in chemistry, president of the Royal Society. Curious we were, certainly we had some ideas what to ask from him. :)
How was his childhood and how did he get into science? Why did he decide, as a physicist, to go for biology and study ribosomes? Does "scientific talent" really exist or it's all just a matter of hard work? What other scientific fields would he be tempted to study if he wasn't working on ribosomes? What does it represent to him to be the president of the

Royal Society and what is his vision as a president? Did the Nobel prize influence his personal relationships? What is more important behind a Nobel prize: the man or the idea? What advice would he give to young scientists?

Find out all about his answers from our video!

Science Plane interview:

Dr. Chris Shilling

How will healthcare change in our ageing society? Is there a way to make proper healtcare affordable for everyone? Who determines how much your pills cost? Dr. Chris Shilling answers.

Science Plane interview:

Marleen Katee

Medical research papers are written in a scientific language, usually in English. Patients often  find them difficult to understand. But they are the ones who need information about their disease the most! How can we forward the newest scientific results to the patients so that they understand? How can regulators and researchers be involved in this mission? Marleen Kaatee answers.
