Fábián
TÓTH
Fábián is a M.Sc. student in science communication, who has earned his B.Sc. degree in geography. His B.Sc. studies focused on the geography of transportation, sustainable development, communal and economically effective transportation methods. During his M.Sc. studies Fábián merged into various activities around science communication. He participated in the organisation of a public outreach project called "Tudás Presszó": a science café-like event where the audience has the opportunity to participate to moderated discussions and interviews with renowned Hungarian scientists.
Speaking in English and German, Fábián participated at the European Geographers Association’s Eastern Regional Congress in Romania. They discussed in small workshops the energy policies, distribution, supply, demand and geopolitics of ‘energy’ in Europe. Moreover, they had the change to discover the biosphere of the Danube-Delta. He also participated in a European Voluntary Service project in Bydgoszcz, Poland, where he introduced the most successful and notable results of Hungarian scientist to elementary school classes.
Beyond these recent activities, Fábián is a voluntary researcher at the Hungarian Urbanistic Society, a former member of the European Geography Association and he publishes occasionally articles in the university’s newspaper.
“Edu-tainment is a really informative and effective way to introduce science for non-experts, and that’s what I would like to deeply study in the future. With the help of ESOF I could get reliable and trustworthy information from honoured experts of different disciplines.”
WHAT BRINGS HIM
TO ESOF 2016?
“It is an honour that science communicators can really help the non-professional, everyday people to gain better understanding of the developments of different science fields by being the link between the representatives of the heavy, difficult science and the general society. My goal is to become this kind of science communicator, and this is the reason why I wish to participate in ESOF 2016”
